Teen to Lead GOP Convention in Pledge to Flag

Pittsburgh, PA - Sara Pyszka, a young
woman who cannot use her natural voice due to cerebral
palsy, will lead the Republican National Convention
as delegates salute the flag on Wednesday evening, September
1, in New York City.
WHO: Sara Pyszka, the suburban Pittsburgh
teen who cannot use her natural voice and communicates
with a DynaVox speech generator.
WHAT: Invited by Republican National
Committee to lead the Pledge of Allegiance for the Republican
National Convention.
WHEN: Wednesday evening, September
1, 2004.
WHERE: Madison Square Garden, New
York, NY.
WHY: Over the past year Sara has gained
international renown as a singer/song writer. She has
performed in western Pennsylvania and Ohio about ten
times, most recently at a Cleveland Indians game in
early July, where she sang the National Anthem before
a crowd of 17,000 fans. Sara, who is eighteen and a
supporter of President Bush, will vote for the first
time this year.
HOW: Although she cannot use her natural
voice, Sara speaks by means of a DynaVox speech generation
device. She is a highly intelligent and talented young
woman who has collaborated with Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra conductor Lucas Richman.
